The list is seemingly endless. Thursday, May 18, 2006 Morning guided tour of St. Peter's - the center of the Roman Catholic faith. A shrine was erected on the site of St. Peter's tomb in the 2nd century and the first great basilica was completed around AD 349. By the 15th century, it was in such decay that Pope Julius II laid the first stone for the new church. More than a century later, and with the aid of the great architects of the Roman Renaissance, St. Peter's was completed. Marvel at the Dome which was designed by Michelangelo, though not finished in his lifetime. Spend the early afternoon in the Vatican Gardens - which date back to medieval times.
